How to Wallpaper
Wallpapering is a great way to add personality and style to any room in your home. The process of wallpapering involves covering walls with decorative paper or fabric. It can be a DIY project or done by a professional.
- Preparing the walls: Before hanging wallpaper, it's important to prepare the walls. This includes removing any old wallpaper or paint, filling in any holes or cracks, and sanding the walls to create a smooth surface. It's also important to clean the walls thoroughly to remove any dust or dirt.
- Measuring and cutting the wallpaper: Measure the width and height of the wall, and add an extra 10cm to each measurement to allow for trimming. Cut the wallpaper to the correct size.
- Mixing the paste: Mix the wallpaper paste according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Applying the paste: Apply the paste to the back of the wallpaper using a pasting brush,
making sure to cover the entire surface. Allow the paste to sit for the recommended time before hanging the wallpaper. - Hanging the wallpaper: Carefully line up the top of the wallpaper with the top of the wall and smooth it out using a wallpaper smoother. Continue to hang the wallpaper, carefully smoothing out any bubbles or creases as you go.
- Wallpapering around obstacles: When hanging wallpaper around obstacles such as light switches, outlets, or windows, it's important to use a sharp blade to cut the wallpaper to the correct size. Use a wallpaper brush or your fingers to smooth out the edges and ensure a tight fit.
- Fixing damaged wallpaper: To fix a small tear or bubble, carefully press the wallpaper back into place and use a wallpaper brush to smooth out the edges. For larger tears or damage, it may be necessary to remove the damaged section of wallpaper and patch it with a new piece.
Precautions:
- Always work in a well-ventilated room.
- Use the right type of paste for the type of wallpaper you're using.
- Always use a ladder or scaffolding to reach high places.
- Be careful not to over-wet the wallpaper when applying paste, as this can cause it to stretch or tear.
- Be sure to keep wallpaper out of reach of children and pets, as it can be dangerous if ingested.
Please note: The above instructions are general, you should always check the manufacturer's instructions before you start and follow the recommended procedures.
